Home Learning: Taitua Arboretum

LI: To gain knowledge about the Taitua Arboretum

The above DLO showcases the presentation on my research on the Taitua Arboretum. I came to know a lot about Taitua Arboretum after completing this DLO. The best task was the first activity in which I wrote the interesting facts. The fact which I felt the most surprising was- the Taitua Arboretum covers an area of 20 hectares which really is a large number. I loved to complete this Home Learning Task on Taitua Arboretum as it was very knowledgeable.

  1. I have been to the Taitua Arboretum several times. It is a 20-hectare (49-acre) tree collection just out of Hamilton City. The Arboretum has several lakes and a good network of walking tracks. It is a popular spot for Sunday afternoon picnics and weekend weddings. If you're looking for a tranquil picnic spot, or an opportunity to escape the bustle of city living, then Taitua Arboretum offers a relaxing retreat.

John and Bunny Mortimer started planting trees and shrubs in 1973 to provide shelter and shade for animals in the area. This continued their life-long passion for growing native and exotic trees and shrubs. By the time it was gifted to the people of Hamilton in 1997, it was recognised as an arboretum and is now open for all to enjoy.
