SLJ (W6/A53): Step it up Whānau Tent Time

 LI: To create a programme for you and your family to enjoy time.

The above poster is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to create a programme that we enjoyed this evening. I used canva to create the poster that had all the schedules which basically was the events happening in the party. I included the main points like the starting time, watching movies, eating snacks, listening to songs and watching the sunset. As I was the creator of the event I also made some snacks that we could enjoy. I loved completing this task because my family and I had a great time and the best part was that I was the organiser. I enjoyed completing all the Summer Learning Journey Tasks and came to learn many new things from each activity. 

SLJ (W6/A53): Kick Start Whānau Tent Time

 LI: To create a fort either inside or outside your house.

The above picture is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity we were challenged to create a fort either inside or outside the house. I then started watching some video tutorials and I noted down the ideas. I decided to make the fort inside as it was quite windy outside. I then gathered all the materials that would be required, like cushions, blankets, chairs and bed sheets. Me and brother worked together as he was very excited and then we kept the chairs in a formation to hold the blankets. Later we added blankets at the top and at the bottom as well as some cushions on the side. Once it was ready and me and my brother sat under it and noticed that it looked so real as the the blankets were like the carpets and roof, chairs as the pillars and the cushions as pillows. I loved completing this task and am happy that our hard work paid off. I am excited to do the second part of this activity.

SLJ (W6/A52): Step it up Summer Picnic

 LI: To design a menu for your picnic using canva. 

The above poster is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to create a menu that we would be taking for picnic. This is the same menu that I took for picnic last week and my favourite combo was grilled tofu with soft drinks. All the food tasted amazing and as I am talking about it I have started to feel hungry. For making this menu I used canva which was very helpful as I could take ideas from various layouts and create one as my own design. While I was adding the information I made sure that I do classification in the dished like drinks and meals as well as add minor stuff like the timing. I enjoyed completing this task as I was recalling all the fun I did at my picnics. I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well. 

SLJ (W6/A52): Kick Start Summer Picnic

 LI: To pack a picnic basket, bag or box with food for my picnic.

The above picture is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity we were asked to create a picnic basket and add a picture of it on our blogs. As we did not have any plans for this weekend I decided to add a picture from the past that I clicked when we were going to the beach. I think when I go outside, the thing I enjoy doing the most is having the food we brought from home. I somehow find it better than the restaurants and always insist my mother to bring stuff like homemade sandwiches and burgers instead. I loved completing this task because I got a chance to share my experience with my reader. I am looking forward to do the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A51): Step it up That was Summer

 LI: To create a screencastify in which you narrate your poem.

The above screencastify is the seventh task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to narrate our "that was summer poem". I first started by adding labelled for reuse pictures on a google presentation and created its layout. Then I copied and pasted the lines of my poem. The thing I liked the most about this activity was that the poem came to life as adding the pictures helped the readers create a picture in their mind. Once, I completed the poem I practiced saying the lines a couple of times and then recorded the screencastify. I loved completing this activity and I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well.

SLJ (W6/A51): Kick Start That was Summer

 LI: To create our own poem that represents summer.

The above design is the seventh task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create our "that was summer poem". I started by brainstorming words that came in my mind and I thought could be used in poem. I think this was the best strategy I could have ever used because I could also find rhyming words making my poem more attractive. Finally, once my poem was completed I added a picture in the background and I made sure that I gave credits to the creator as well. I loved completing this task because I improved my poetry skills and I am looking forward to do the other part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A50): Step it up Gliding Time

 LI: To create a screencastify and share my experience while making the design.

The above screencastify is the sixth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to share our experience of making the origami glider. I started by watching some video tutorials on youtube and finally made it. Me and my brother were so excited to see how it will work that I forgot to click a picture and went in the front lawn to test it. That's when it got stuck in the tree and I had to make the glider again. But this time I made sure that I clicked the picture. The glider was really amazing as it stayed in the air for a long time and also had a smooth landing as compared to other origami airplanes. I loved completing this task as I improved my art skills and also got a chance to learn new techniques. I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well. 

SLJ (W6/A50): Kick Start Gliding Time

 LI: To create a design or rough sketch of the glider I created. 

The above design is the sixth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a rough sketch of the glider and label the important parts as well. When I was doing the task I found drawing on the paper much more easier and detailed rather doing it on the chromebook. Some parts that I have labelled are fore, nose, leading edge, trailing edge, chord, starboard, salmon, port, fuselage, tail and aft. I also liked researching the roles of each parts in the glider and came to know that each part is as important as the other. This task was very knowledgeable for me because I came to know more about gliders and I am looking forward to do the second part of the activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A49): Step it up Pixel Art

 LI: To create my own pixel tree animation.

The above screencastify is the fifth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to create an animation using piskelapp which showcases a christmas tree. I think we couldn't have found any other site as this was the most convenient one for many reasons and some of them are that we can see the preview side by side, it has many tools which make the work easier and we can copy and paste the slides instead of making the whole thing again. After I completed the task I downloaded it but, faced trouble uploading the video thus I decided to make a screencastify instead. I loved completing this task because I came to know more about pixels side by side. Something I found interesting was that a pixel is the smallest element in an all points of the device. I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well. 

SLJ (W6/A49): Kick Start Pixel Art

 LI: To create my own summer pixel art image.

The above artwork is the fifth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to use pixel art maker and create a piece of art that represents summer. When I think about summer many things come in my mind including the beach, sun, clothes, swimming, and ofcourse food. I tried most of them and I found the above drawing the most perfect out of them. Before doing this task I didn't know about the site and I am glad to work on it because it is amazing because it make the drawing easier and much more better. I came to know many knowledgeable facts and one of them is that pixel is a minute area of illumination on a display screen and are reason why we can see images. I loved completing this task and I am looking forward to fo the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A48): Step it up Mondrian

 LI: To find maths (fractions and area) in the piece of art you created.

The above google draw is the fourth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to find the maths including the area and fraction of each color in the art we created. Area can be defined as the space occupied by a flat shape whereas a fraction can be defined as the part of a whole and not exactly a whole number. It was very creative to add maths in art and that is the reason why I loved doing this activity the most. I also liked the fact that these activities prevent me from forgetting my math strategies in these holidays. I loved completing this task and I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well.

SLJ (W6/A48): Kick Start Mondrian

 LI: To create a Mondrian Art using google spreadsheet.

The above artwork is the fourth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a Mondrian Art. This type of art was created by Piet Mondrian and was named after it. He was an important leader in the development of modern abstract art during the Dutch art movement. This activity improved my creativity skills in art but at the same time I came to learn some interesting facts about the history of arts. Something that I found amusing was that the creator of this beautiful modern art was inspired by Pablo Picasso and got the idea of Cubism from him only. I loved completing this activity and I am looking forward to do the second part of this task as well. 

SLJ (W6/A47): Step it up Soundtrack of Summer

 LI: To create a survey to find out about people’s top songs to celebrate summer 

The above survey is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to create a questionnaire that would be answered by the readers of my blog. A survey is basically a general view, examination, or description a certain topic. I made sure that I ask both open ended and close ended questions as I wanted to know what your answers would be freestyle and what would be within the options as well. I love creating and doing survey because I come to know about each others opinions and interests. After I made the survey I asked my family and friends to fill it and I would like if you fill it as well. This task was also amazing as I would be learning so much about others and I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey blog posts as well.

SLJ (W6/A47): Kick Start Soundtrack of Summer

 LI: To create a playlist of the songs that people could sing together to celebrate summer. 

The above screencastify is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a playlist of songs you often listen and enjoy singing with your family. My playlist always contain Kpop or Korean Pop music and that is why my brother and cousins also listen to them. The thing I like the most about these songs is that they are not just of one genre and makes me feel several feelings at one time. One more thing is that they don't just sing but dance as well. My favourite band amongst all of them is BTS, Bangtan Sonyeondan or Bulletproof Boy Scouts and I spend most of the day listening to their music. I often play their music on Spotify and do my work side by side. 

For this activity, instead of just adding the songs I decided to play the main part or a short clip and show it in the screencastify. Most of the music that I have listed above are related to summer, but the rest are one of my favourite songs. The music bands who sang them were Red Velvet, TXT, Blackpink and BTS. I also turned the subtitles on, as some part of the lyrics are in Korean and I guess it would be a little more helpful. This activity was my favourite out of all the Summer Learning Journey Tasks because I could share my interest in music with my readers. I am looking forward to the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A3): Step it up Fishy False Teeth

 LI: To create an infographic proving whether the fact is true or not.

The above picture is the second task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create an infographic concluding the fact "fishes have human like teeth" is true or not. This activity increased by vocabulary as well because I came to know that the word "hoax" means a trick or a rumor. Once I did my research I created my infographic on the google draw proving the fact true but partially, as all fished don't have human like teeth, it's just triggerfish that are located in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The thing I liked the most about completing this activity was that the first part was very funny whereas the second part was very knowledgeable. I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey blog posts as well. 

SLJ (W6/A46): Super Seesaw with Nanogirl

LI: To create a screencastify showcasing the super seesaw I created.

Today, I have completed my first task of week six for the Summer Learning Journey activity and have created a screencastify that shows the super seesaw I created. First, I watched the introduction video Nanogirl has uploaded on her site and I came to know many new things. I started by learning the meaning of catapult. In easy words, it is a machine in which one side of the stick would throw whatever it has in it at a high speed due to the force or weight added on the other side. Today we would be learning the power of super throwing by making the catapult in this activity.

I started by collecting all the equipments that were required to run the activity which were a hairband, tissue roll, spatula and a stone. Then, I temporarily stick the roll to the spatula with the harband to create a strong grip. While making the design, I came to know that this activity contains a lot of knowledgeable terms as the stone can be thrown at different angles by increasing and decreasing its size which is mathematics and the force and pressure on the other side of the catapult then leads the stone to go at a far distance which is physics. The most fun part was that fun activities like these help explain such big topics in an easy way through an example. Once I was ready with my experiment I went outside my house and tried my catapult. 

I really enjoyed completing this activity because I came to know more about angles, force and pressure as well as got to check it by conducting this activity. The part which I enjoyable and challenging part in this activity was doing the experiment because it took a lot of time for the stone to actually hit the target but when it happened me and my brother were really very happy. I think the advice I would give to the creators who haven't done the experiment yet, is to not lose hope when the catapult doesn't work as it will take time to hit the target when you try different angles and move the spatula according to it. I am excited to complete other Summer Learning Journey tasks as well.

SLJ (W5/A45): Step it up It's a Balancing Act

 LI: To create a screencastify and share your experience while building the design.

The above screencastify is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. In this Step it up activity I have showed the two attempts that conclude having a strong base is important in a structure. My first attempt is the perfect example as it covers all the three rules which are a strong base, a flat surface and equal sized materials but when it is compared with my second attempt it is a little wiggly due to a small base. After completing this activity I concluded that the base has a very strong impact on the durability of a structure. I loved completing this task because it was very knowledgeable and at the same time I also came to learn the science behind it which is the wider the base the more the weight can be spread. I am looking forward to complete other Summer Learning Journey activities as well. 

SLJ (W5/A45): Kick Start It's a Balancing Act

 LI: To learn more about balancing and create a tower that showcases your skills.

The above picture is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to learn about balancing and show an example of the tower I have created. For this activity, I started by watching the recommended video from which I learnt many tips and some of them were to use a flat or hard surface and avoid the carpet area as it would help to build a firm base. It also said to use materials of the same size and to make the design more stable it should have a broad start because it makes a much more stronger base and an example that best suits is a triangle or pyramids. The scientific reason is that the weight of the tower spreads out between the broad base instead of just being on one block. After watching the video and understanding the facts I created my tower. I couldn't find rock or pebbles so I decided to use the Jenga blocks I had at home. I followed the tips but to make the task a little more trickier I decided to put the weight of the design on one single block. Even though it was making my tower fall it was much more fun. I loved completing this task and I am looking forward to do the second part of this task as well. 

SLJ (W5/A44): Step it up Do Something New

  LI: To create your own journey in New Zealand that I would like to travel.

The above google maps is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I read the instructions that explained the challenge, which was to create your own journey which consists of at least fifteen locations and then drop pins on the map. Only hearing the challenge made me so excited because I love to travel and when I came to New Zealand I already created a list to the places I would love to go. So, it was a good time to use the list now. One thing I loved about this activity was that we were using our smart searching skills to discover about new places and also write a small summary that explains the topic more. 

The places that I have covered on the map are Bay of Islands, Tongariro National Park, Franz Josef Glacier, Kaikoura, Milford Sound, Waiheke Island, White Island, Waitomo Glowworm Caves, One Tree Hill, Moeraki Boulders, Craters of the Moon, Huka Falls, Larnach Castle, Piha Beach and Wanaka. In the map, I have added pictures of the place and small information paragraphs so that it can be more informative and clear. I loved completing this activity because I got a chance to share my opinions with the readers and also discovered some beautiful places that I never knew about. I would love to do more activities like this and I am very excited to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks. 

SLJ (W5/A44): Kick Start Do Something New

  LI: To choose a journey in New Zealand that you would like to travel.

The above google maps is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to plan a trip around New Zealand and either choose Journey A or Journey B which were provided on a google documents, and create a map which has the pins on locations from the journeys. The reason I chose Journey A was because I have visited very were few places amongst them and it would be more fun to travel unvisited places. 

The places that I have covered on the map are: Cape Reinga, Geyser, Beehive, Sky Tower, L&P bottle, Pania of Reef, Baldwin Street, Avon, Punakaiki, Botanic Gardens, Mount Taranaki, Routeburn, Mount Ruapehu, Whales Kaikoura, Oamaru Penguin, Tāne Mahuta, Opononian, Kiwi fruit Te Puke and Hobbitons. In the map, I made sure to add pins with different colors so it could be easily classified, a picture of the place so the readers can get an idea of what I am talking about and a small information paragraph that gives a summary on the place. I loved completing this activity as this was very knowledgeable for me and at the same time I came to know places I would love to visit within the country. I am looking forward to do the second part of this task as well.

SLJ (W5/A43): Step it up Are summers same everywhere?

 LI: To list the differences and similarities between New Zealand and another country.

The above google draw is the seventh task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to use jamboard and complete the table of compare and contrast by adding points telling the similarities and differences between New Zealand and another country. When I was choosing the country I made sure of a couple of points like weather, climate, celebrations and holidays. The reason I chose South Korea was because it was completely opposite to New Zealand because of its location on the earth which helped me right more points in the table. I loved completing this task because I used my smart searching skills and also came to know about many knowledgeable facts. I am looking forward to do other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey. 

SLJ (W5/A43): Kick Start Are summers same everywhere?

 LI: To create a screencastify and explain how New Zealand celebrates summers.

The above screencastify is the seventh task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to write a section for New Zealand including relevant information. First I started by adding a picture which showcases sunset near the Sky Tower. The reason I added that specific picture was because it represents the country and summer at the same time. I also made sure that it is labelled for reuse and gave credits as well. I then read some articles through which I can get the flow of writing and also get some tips as well. Once my newscover was ready I recorded myself saying it in a screencastify. I loved doing this activity and I am looking forward to do the second part of this task as well. 

SLJ (W5/A42): Step it up Camping Hacks

 LI: To create a camping hack that would help people when they’re out on their excursion.

The above google draw is the sixth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to create a camping hack that can help anyone if they require something. I started by doing some research on what types of problems a person can face in the worst scenarios. I came to know that losing the track might be one of them and might make the people worry thus I created the above hack. I made sure that I use materials that be easily be found like water, hairpin and wood. Once the directions are known you can easily find the track and can reach a safe place. I loved completing this task because I came to know about various problems that we can go through but the best part was that I also learnt back ups for it, I am very excited to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well. 

SLJ (W5/A42): Kick Start Camping Hacks

 LI: To create a list of things that I would require when I go for camping.

The above google draw is the sixth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a list of items I could take with me on my excursion. I read some articles which were provided to us as a start up and they were very helpful as it helped me cover some important points. I started by going through the item I usually use when I stay at home and wrote them down. Then I thought of replacements that can be easily portable instead of the actual item. I have categorized my necessities in seven major titles which are list, toiletries, first aid kit, basics, kitchen tools, clothes and miscellaneous. Completing this activity was very helpful for me as I would already know what to take for camping if I go in the future. I am looking forward to do the second part of this activity. 

SLJ (W5/A41): Step it up Poi Rakau

 LI: To write the instructions of your version of Poi Rakau in a presentation and record yourself.

The above screencastify is the fifth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I started by thinking what changes I can add in the game. Usually the game consists of two instructions which are maui meaning left and matau meaning right. I thought of adding patu rango meaning jump, and patu rango maui and matau meaning jump to the left or right respectively. I could think of more instruction but I thought it would make the game a little too complicated so I thought of leaving it simple. I loved completing this task because I could use my creative skills and create a modified version of the game and also shared it with my readers. I very excited to do other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey. 

SLJ (W5/A41): Kick Start Poi Rakau

 LI: To write the instructions of Poi Rakau in a presentation and record yourself.

The above screencastify is the fifth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to first create a google slides explaining the rules of Poi Rakau and then record ourselves in a screencastify while saying it. I have seen this game in videos and knew about it but never got a chance to play it. For this activity, I couldn't get enough sticks with the right size so I decided to draw a picture which would help the topic to be explained better. I loved completing this activity because I came to learn a new game and also got a chance to share what I learnt with my readers. I am looking forward to do the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W5/A40): Step it up Summer Song Maker

 LI: To modify the Summer Song I created using song maker with my whānau. 

The above piece of music is the fourth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I have made some changes from the first tune that is in the previous blog post. This time I have added drums in the background which kind of created a beat in the tune. After completing this task I now know how to use this site and can also teach others. I started by clicking any keys on the board and then play whatever I have created. Slowly I started to know about the notes which were high and low. Then I made some changes according to the tune and also added drums and changed the instrument. This task was a little relatable to me because I know to play some instruments like guitars and a little bit of piano. I used to learn playing music a long time ago and this activity was a great help to recall the notes. I loved completing this task and I would love to do some more tasks related to instruments and music.

SLJ (W5/A40): Kick Start Summer Song Maker

 LI: To create a Summer Song using song maker with my whānau.

The above piece of music is the fourth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a song or tune on song maker depicting summer. This was the first time I heard any such thing and as I came to know more about this site I kept on loving to make songs on it. I then watched youtube tutorials for famous songs and even made a couple of them. Once I had some knowledge of songs and instruments I created a tune I liked and then decided to write summer which will add some notes at the same time. I loved completing this task because I came to know about this amazing site and also got a chance to compose my own music. I am excited to do the second part of this activity as it will be showing the same tune but with some little changes. 

SLJ (W5/A39): Step it up Summer Symmetry

 LI: To create a piece of art and find the line of symmetry in it.

The above picture is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a piece of art and make it symmetrical. The first thing that clicked in my mind was the leaf art we did in one of the previous activities. Then, I searched for some ideas on google, I saw so many but most of them did not have a line of symmetry. Soon I noticed one picture of an owl and thought that it is pretty much symmetrical. The challenging part in this activity was making the leaves stay at their place, for example the eye, as it was too small I added some glue tac to it. I loved completing this activity because I think I have improved a lot in my leaf art. I am looking forward to do other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey as well. 

SLJ (W5/A39): Kick Start Summer Symmetry

 LI: To find the line of symmetry in objects near me.

The above google draw is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a photo montage of objects that are symmetrical and are near me. Symmetry is when objects are made exactly the same facing each other or around an axis. I started by finding things in nature and that's when I found so many of them. I saw butterflies, leaves, flowers, trees and even cars. When I searched up for things indoor, something that was really shocking was the starbucks logo because I always used to see it, but never saw it symmetrical. When I was inside I saw many letters and numbers that were symmetrical, now everytime I type or read something I try to find the line of symmetry in the characters. After completing this activity I also came to know that an object doesn't just have one line of symmetry, shapes like circles have an infinity of symmetrical lines. I loved completing this activity and I am looking forward to do its second part as well. 

SLJ (W5/A30): Step it up Whai String Games

LI: To follow the instructions and create a parachute with a string.

The above screencastify is the second task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. This Step it up activity showcases the instructions to create a parachute with a string. I started this activity by reading the steps to create the design and practised it a couple of times. After practising both the designs I found making the parachute easier that than the two diamonds. I then asked my mother to click the pictures of each step of what I did. Later on I added the pictures in a presentation and recorded it in a screencastify in which I explain the steps. Something I found different in this design was that it just required one hand to hold the string whereas the other hand just  moved the strings. I was eagerly waiting to do this activity because we did the first part a week ago. I loved doing this activity and I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well. 

SLJ (W5/A38): Anti Gravity Glass with Nanogirl

LI: To create a screencastify showcasing the anti-gravity glass I created.

Today, I have completed my first task of week five for the Summer Learning Journey activity and have created a screencastify that shows the anti-gravity glass I created. First, I watched the introduction video Nanogirl has uploaded on her site and I came to know many new things. I started by learning the meaning of gravity. It is the force that attracts a body with mass towards the centre of the earth, in easy words it is the force that pulls you back to the ground. For example, when a person jumps the reason they come back on the ground is due to gravity. Today we would be stopping gravity by making the anti-gravity glass in this activity.

I started by collecting all the equipments that were required to run the activity which were glass and cardboard. Then I cut the cardboard in the right size according to the glass by measuring the size. While making this activity, I came to know that anti-gravity is when another force stops the gravitational force. Basically, in this case the air pressure is pushing the cardboard upwards and the gravity is pulling the water downwards. The important point is that both of them are equal thus the water stays inside the glass even though it is upside down. Once I was ready for my experiment I went outside my house and tried it. 

I really enjoyed completing this activity because I came to know what gravitational force and air pressure is and also got to check it by conducting this activity. The part which I enjoyed the most was doing the experiment because when I showed it to my brother he thought I was actually doing magic and got very shocked. The tricky part in this activity was holding the glass because it was very slippery and heavy at the same time. I think the advice I would give to the creators who haven't done the experiment yet, is to test the experiment outside the house because there are many chances that you will create a mess inside. I am excited to complete other Summer Learning Journey tasks as well.

SLJ (W4/A37): Step it up Rehua

The above screencastify is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I learnt what other cultures believe about Rehua and what the proverb actually means. As I read other articles and facts I came to know that according to other countries, Rehua is Antares, which is a star in the constellation Scorpio. Not only this, but some tribes say that Rehua can cure some or all ailments in a person. After learning all the facts, I came to know why Rehua is said to be on fire. As the constellation occurs in January, which is one of the hottest months in the year, it is said that Rehua (Antares) is on fire. I loved completing this activity because I could share my findings and facts with my readers through a screencastify. I am excited to do other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey as well. 

SLJ (W4/A37): Kick Start Rehua

 LI: To create an informative poster that showcases your learning. 

The above poster is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a poster that explains the proverb "Rehua is on fire" or " Kei te mura a rehua". I started by reading the presentation which was very helpful as I came to know a lot. As every culture has its own beliefs, Rehua is also considered differently around the world. According to the Maori culture, Rehua is the lord of all stars and is considered to be seen in the month of January. It also depicts the heat and the hot sun. For this activity, I have created a word cloud that contains of all the keywords related to this activity and have also added a drawing of constellation called Scorpio. I loved completing this activity as I came to learn about something I never knew. I am looking forward to complete the second part of this activity as well.

SLJ (W4/A36): Step it up Summer Collage

 LI: To record a poem showcasing the things I like to do in Summer.

The above screencastify is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. The Step it up activity showcases the poem I have created reflecting the favourite things I like to do in Summer. I started this activity by recalling and remembering all the beautiful places I have visited and all the small details I can add in my poem. Once I had a couple of ideas I then made the rhyme in the ending words. I think rhyming is very important in poems because it makes them sound more catchy and powerful at the same time. Once my poem was ready I added a picture in the background that my mum and I clicked from the top of Sky Tower. I really liked completing this activity as I got a chance to use my creativity skills and write a poem in my own words, after recalling the fun time I spent in the holidays. I am very excited to complete my other tasks of the Summer Learning Journey. 

SLJ (W4/A36): Kick Start Summer Collage

The above collage is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a photo montage showcasing what you liked to do in the summer holidays. Completing this task was so amazing because, I could think of all the memories I had since the start of my holidays and could also think about the fun time I enjoyed with my family and friends. For this activity, I have added some pictures that I clicked while travelling and hiking through out my vacation. The places I have added are Sky Tower, Blue Water Streams, Mission Bay Beach, Kohimarama Beach and Narrow Neck Beach. I also liked completing this task because I used my creative skills and designed the formation of pictures. I am looking forward to do the second part of this activity as well.

The above screencastify is the seventh task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I made a screencastify and have added the images that I clicked with the interesting facts that I came to know, after visiting this place. For this activity, the thing I found very knowledgeable was the "learning part" as I read many articles on different sites and came to know about other beautiful places in New Zealand. I have noted some down that I would love to visit in future. Another reason why I loved going to this place was because I could click lots of pictures and photography is my hobby. I loved to choose the perfect angles, frame and lighting to click the picture. This experience was very memorable for me and I loved doing this activity because I got a chance to share this with my readers. I am looking forward to do other tasks of the Summer Learning Journey.

SLJ (W4/A35): Kick Start My Special Summer Place

The above google draw is the seventh task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create an infographic on your special summer place. This summer I visited many places, as I am new to this country and I was very excited to roam around and see the beautiful sceneries. Out of all trips the one I loved the most was Hobbiton Movie Set Tours because this place was the set in the movies I have seen. The thing I liked the most was that I could think of each scene I saw in the movie when I was walking around. I think this is the best place for a person who is a fan of the Hobbiton series. I also liked that we had to take a long drive to reach this place. For this activity, I have added the pictures that I clicked through out my trip and have also added some interesting facts that I came to know. I loved completing this activity and I would be explaining the topic more in the next part of the task.

SLJ (W4/A34): Step it up Float Your Boat

 LI: To create a canoe as well as a square end boat and show the results.

The above presentation is the sixth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a paper canoe and square ended boat. This time we were also supposed to see if the boats were durable and tested it by adding weights to it. I watched both the video tutorials and found making the square ended boat quite challenging as it had many folds. When my boats were ready I checked there durability by adding sharpeners on them. I had a total of fifteen sharpeners and the canoe could hold all of them whereas the square ended boat could hold twelve of them. Probably the reason was because there was very less space and the end of the boat was unstable because it started to fall apart. I really enjoyed completing this activity because I tried something new and learnt how to create different types of boats as well as got a chance to improve my origami skills. I am excited to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks. 

SLJ (W4/A34): Kick Start Float Your Boat

 LI: To create a paper boat and share the results.

The above series of slides is the sixth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a paper boat and see if it floats on water. I then watched the video tutorial and followed it step by step. To make the boat, I recycled paper because I didn't want to waste a fresh paper. After making the boat, I filled a bucket with water and clicked its picture when it was floating. A tip that I would give to others who haven't made this origami yet, is to press the folds properly so the boat can be durable. I loved completing this activity because I thought I became a little creative as I created lines on the boat as a pattern and it crossed the writing on the paper making it look more designed. I am very excited to complete the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W4/A33): Step it up Witchy Airwaves Podcast

 LI: To create a podcast showcasing the second part of your story.

The above presentation is the fifth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I completed the second part of the story "The Unusual Witch" which is shown in the previous blog post. The first part showcases the life of a witch who thought to change the mindset of humans as they always thought a witch as a bad influence. Then I left the story at a fun part where she runs away from her life, and destiny takes her somewhere she would have never expected to visit. This part of the story introduces a new character which has a major role in changing the life of the witch. I made sure to complete the poem with a happy ending this time. The reason I chose this story was because I thought that it was a little different from other witchcraft stories and shows the good side of the villains in the fairytales. I loved completing this activity and I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey activities as well. 

SLJ (W4/A33): Kick Start Witchy Airwaves Podcast

 LI: To create a podcast showcasing the first part of your story.

The above presentation is the fifth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video in which we were challenged to create our own podcast on a witchy story. A podcast is like an audio storybook in which the reader can read and listen to the text at the same time. I then read some recommended stories like "Room on the broom" by Julia Donaldson and "The witches" by Roald Dahl. It was very helpful as I got at idea on how to create my story and I think I made a great start with this activity. 

I read more stories and specially loved one, "The unusual witch" by H. P. Lovecraft and thought of taking it as my story. I changed some words and decreased the text as the story was quite long and I didn't have much images. Then I used vocaroo and recorded myself saying the texts in parts. I thought of leaving the story at an exciting part, which will make the readers want to read the second part of the story as well. I loved completing this activity because I learnt how to summarise texts and use my smart searching skills at the same time. I am looking forward to complete the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W4/A32): Step it up Ice Cream

LI: To use scratch and create an animation showcasing the vocabulary I learnt.

The above poster is the fourth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. The Step it up activity showcases the animation I have created on scratch. This was the first time I  uses this site and I was excited from the start because students in my class often used it. I started by watching the introduction videos and I think they were a great help for a beginner like me. I still was not sure about other features and tools so I ended up making a basic animation. I added different costumes to the character as the first one is the cashier and the second one is the customer. I have also added a conversation between them which is the vocabulary I learnt from completing the previous task. I loved completing this task as I got a chance to share my knowledge in the form of a fun animation with the readers and I am looking forward to do other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey as well. 

SLJ (W4/A32): Kick Start Ice Cream

 LI: To create a poster which showcases the new vocabulary I learnt.

The above poster is the fourth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by solving the questionnaire which helped me learn new vocabulary words in Te Reo Maori. The thing I liked the most about solving these question were the way they were asked. We were supposed to listen the recording first then guess the answer, in the end we would see, and check if it was right or wrong. I think this strategy was very efficient because it made me improve my listening and speaking skills at the same time. Once I learnt all the basics, I made my poster and I added one of the phrases that I learnt which means "it costs six dollars and ninety cents". Completing this task was very knowledgeable as I also came to know three flavors in an ice cream which were tiakarete, panama and rōpere (chocolate, banana and strawberry). I am very excited to do the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W4/A31): Step it up Summer Sounds

 LI: To write a poem on the bases of the sounds I hear outside. 

The above google draw is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. The Step it up activity showcases the poem that I created after hearing the audio in the first part of this activity. I started by reading the poem Summer Sounds written by Jenny Bornholdt, in which she talks about what beautiful things she observes when she goes outside. I think it was very helpful because it was an example through which we can get an idea of what to do now. I then used the strategy of brainstorming and wrote the key words, which I thought could be used in the poem. The challenging part is this activity was to create the rhyme with the ending words. Finally, after making the poem I made sure that I add text graphic and a drawing to make it look more efficient. Once I completed my work I presented it as a screencastify and recorded myself narrating the poem. I loved completing this task because I was being creative and using my vocabulary at the same time as well as got a chance to enhance my knowledge in literature. I am very excited to do other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey.

The above vocaroo is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. The Kick Start activity showcases the sounds that I hear when I go outside. The thing I liked the most about this task is that it's very pleasing. When I sit outside on the doorway and close my eyes I hear the exact same sounds. If a person carefully listens to the recording they will hear the chirping of crickets and birds, blowing winds and the vrooming of cars at a far away distance. I also like the fact that a person sitting indoors can think of the scenery I am talking about as the sounds would create a picture in their mind. I think this task was a great start up because writing the poem would be much more easier now. I loved doing this activity and I am looking forward to do the second part of it as well. 

SLJ (W4/A30): Kick Start Whai String Games

 LI: To follow the instructions and create a cup and saucer with a string.

The above screencastify is the second task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. This activity showcases the instructions to create a cup and saucer with a string. This game is called "Ayatori" and is a Japanese game in which the children make different designs using a string. "Ayatori" is commonly known as Cat's cradle in foreign countries and is one of the oldest games recorded in human history. For this activity, I first started by reading a story called "Whai String games" in which two siblings named Hani and Mahi learn how to play a game with string, and end up making various designs like the fish and saucer, which we would be making in this activity.

I was really excited from the start to do this activity because I have seen characters in many animes playing this game but I never tried it myself. Before doing this activity, I thought it would be very easy but when I kept on moving to the next step, I realised that it requires a lot of control and concentration as the thread kept on falling down. Watching the video clip provided in the introduction presentation was very helpful because I got an idea of what to do. After several tries of making the fish and saucer, I asked my mother to click the pictures of each step of what I did. I then made a screencastify of the pictures and added arrows to make the instructions more clear. I loved doing this activity and I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well. 

SLJ (W4/A29): Sundial with Nanogirl

 LI: To create a screencastify showcasing the sundial I created.

Today, I have completed my first task of week four for the Summer Learning Journey activity and have created a screencastify that shows the sundial I created with some cardboard. First, I watched the introduction video Nanogirl has uploaded on her site and I came to know many new things. I started by learning the different mediums through which people see time now days. The two of them are digital clocks and analogue clocks, digital clocks are updated by the internet and we can clearly see the numbers through it whereas an analogue clock showcases time through needles pointing to it which is like the clock we have on our walls. But in the past, people used to see time through the sun and by making a sundial, which we would be making in this activity.

I started by collecting all the equipments that were required to run the activity which were cardboard, pencil, ruler, tape, string and glue tack. Then I made the base which is the circle and the right angled triangle which would help create the shadow. While making this activity, I really liked the way we were using mathematical terms like radius and how it had a role in making the activity more perfect. Basically, the reason why we have the same length for the triangle and the radius of the circle is because they can fit completely. Once I had created the sundial I kept it in the garden and recorded the time of how I managed my day. 

I really enjoyed completing this activity because I came to know how people in the past used to see time as well as got a fun way of making a sun clock. The part which I enjoyed the most was observing the design because I kept on going outside to see the changes. The tricky part in this activity was joining the two pieces of the sundial because I tried it with glue tack but it fell down a couple of times, so I finally decided to use tape as a replacement. I think the advice I would give to the creators who haven't done the experiment yet, is to keep the sundial at a place where it is not windy and at the same angle through which you want the picture to be clicked. I am excited to complete other Summer Learning Journey tasks as well.

SLJ (W3/A28): Step it up Which face is real

LI: To create a screencastofy and show a tutorial on reversing images through google. 

The above screencastofy is the eighth Step it up activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. It showcases a video tutorial in which I explain how google can help in reversing images. "Reversing Images" basically means learning more about the image through the related searches and the content that is connected to the picture. I think that watching the introduction video provided on the site was very helpful for me because I never knew that anything like this exists on google. The strategy of reversing images can be very helpful for us in many ways because students are often assigned researches on different topics and when we know about what image we were adding, it often gets more detailed. Thus, I am glad to know about this.

Yes, I do think that the camera never lies as it captures a moment in life and when we see the image again we can exactly think of what we did then. But when I think if it is true now, the answer would probably be a no, due to the digital changes and makeup add ons in a picture. These extra details are very common nowadays because of the green screen provided in photo editing shops. It can be called a "fraud" as the person is not actually where it is showed in the picture but has a digital background behind it. I really enjoyed doing this activity because it was very knowledgeable for me and I learnt to differentiate between a fake and real picture. 

SLJ (W3/A28): Kick Start Which face is real

 LI: To create a google draw and find which picture is fake by finding out the mistakes.

The above picture is the eighth Kick Start activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. First, I started by solving a questionnaire in which I was searching for the digital and makeup errors in different pictures. Solving those questions were tricky and fun at the same time because in the start I kept on getting wrong answers but then I improved and I think I got a better eye in finding the mistakes. I solved twenty question and got fifteen of them correct, so my score was a fifteen out of twenty. These start up activities and videos were very helpful for this task as it explained the reason pictures are fake. Then, I chose the above example and created a google draw pointing out the error I found on her neck. I really enjoyed doing this activity because we were very focused in finding the slightest mistake. I am looking forward to do the second part of this activity as well.

SLJ (W3/A27): Step it up Ngā mihi o te tau hou

 LI: To create a screencastify and say Happy New Year in ten different languages.

The above screencastify is the seventh Step it up activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this activity, I started by learning to say Happy New Year in the ten different languages which were Korean, Thai, Chinese, Hindi, Maori, Mexican, Indonesian, French, Italian and Filipino. The thing I liked the most was learning different accents in the languages as I searched these on google translate and heard from the speaker icon. An advice I would give others who will be doing this task is to practice saying the phrase several times and when you are sure then start recording your screencastify. This activity was one of my favourite tasks because I learning languages is my hobby and I would love to fluently speak some of them in future as well. I am very excited to do other Summer Learning Journey tasks and would love to do many tasks like these. 

SLJ (W3/A27): Kick Start Ngā mihi o te tau hou

 LI: To create a poster with cut outs of letters from magazines in at least five languages saying Happy New Year.

The above presentation is the seventh Kick Start activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this activity, we were challenged to write Happy New Year in five different languages with cut out of letter from old magazines. I couldn't find a huge variety of letters so I decided to draw them instead. The five languages I have included are Hindi, Italian, French, Maori and Chinese. I really liked completing this task because I love to draw and this task was related to it. After completing this task I also learnt to say Happy New Year in different languages which was something very knowledgeable for me. The fun part of this activity was to find various fonts and color combinations because we needed a different one for each letter in the word. I am looking forward to complete the second part of this activity as well.

SLJ (W3/A26): Step it up Giuseppe Arcimboldo

 LI: To create a digital art as an example of Giuseppe Arcimboldo paintings.

The above screencastify is the sixth Step it up activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. I started this activity by seeing some portraits of the famous Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. After doing the research I noticed that he uses fruits and vegetables in his portraits and also has a specific combination of dull colors which makes the art look effective. The thing I found interesting was that Giuseppe Arcimboldo was very brave and wasn't scared to show the painting he made for the Emperor Rudolf II as things might have also gone the other way around. It was said that he was lucky enough as the king had a good sense of humour thus he ended up liking the painting. I also liked completing this activity because we were using our smart searching skills to learn from other artists and add it in our design. The thing I found tricky was pronouncing his name because it is in another language and is like a tongue twister. I am very excited to complete other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey as well.

SLJ (W3/A26): Kick Start Giuseppe Arcimboldo

LI: To create my own Giuseppe Arcimboldo (fruit and vegetable) art. 

The above picture is the sixth Kick Start activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. First, I started by researching more about Giuseppe Arcimboldo and the meaning behind his paintings by reading his biography. I came to know many facts while I was learning about him and some of them were that, he is an Italian painter and is famous for his imaginative portrait made entirely of fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and books. Another fact is that he was a court painter and has made several paintings of the three Holy Roman emperors. He also used to make paintings with a throwing shade (dull colors) which was not in trend during the 1500's. 

Once I knew about him and his paintings I started by making the drawing that we were challenged to make. I decided to make the face as a pineapple and a hat as the fruit basket. I have also added details on his face like oranges as eyes, blueberries as eyeballs, banana as the mouth, radish as the nose, leaves as the scarf and cherries as the bowtie. I was inspired by "the fruit basket" which is also one of his creations. The thing I like the most in that painting was that it was reversible, when a person sees it from the front it looks like a man who is covered with fruits but when you put the painting upside down you could see a fruit basket. I really liked completing this activity and I am looking forward to complete the other part of this task as well.

SLJ (W3/A25): Step it up Camping Site

  LI: To solve questions with different strategies under the topic of area.

The above presentation is the fifth Step it up activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. I started by watching an introduction video which explained that, a percentage is a ratio of a number to 100. The thing I found interesting and fun to learn was that, the symbol of percentage (%) has a slash, as number one, and two circles as zeros, making the number hundred. This time, we were asked to divide the area in equal campsites with a toilet block and find which campsite would make the most money. This activity has two parts, first I find the area of the rectangle and then its factors to create equal campsites. The other part is to find the plan which would provide the most money, in which I multiply the cost with the number of campsites. I found this activity very interesting because it was a little different from the previous one and trickier as well. I am looking forward to complete other Summer Learning Journey activities as well. 

SLJ (W3/A25): Kick Start Camping Site

 LI: To learn about the area in shapes and complete the activities.

The above presentation is the fifth Kick Start activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this activity, I started by watching a video clip that gave an introduction to area, and explained that it is the amount of space an object takes up. The video was very helpful as it also showed an example as well as different strategies to solve these types of question. The dimensions of a shape is often referred with length (the bigger side) and breadth (the smaller side) and has a major role in finding the answer. In a rectangle, the strategy to find the area is by multiplying the length and breadth. I followed the same strategy and solved the questions above. I loved completing this activity because I am revising this topic after a long time and I think it was important as it helps me to not leave touch from the academics. 

SLJ (W3/A24): Step it up Tama-nui-te-rā

 LI: To create another word art which describes the proverb I have created.

The above word art is the fourth Step it up activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this activity we were challenged to create another word cloud which describes a well known proverb. I was inspired by the example given in the introduction slides, as it had a very powerful meaning behind it. The proverb was "The sun sets but rises again", this might sound short but the meaning is impressive. The sunset indicates the end of the day creating darkness which says to forget about the mistakes you have done and learn a lesson from it. After the sunset comes the sunrise, which indicates a new start saying that life goes on. 

The proverb I have chosen for this activity is "Dig the well before you're thirsty" which says that, a person should be well prepared and not wait until the end to do something. I have also created a word cloud which describes the saying in key words. The words that I have included are prepare, management, ready, challenge, overcome, solution, thinking, strategy, change, preparation, success, emergency, opportunity, plan, obstacle and problem solving. This time, I made sure that I use more words as compared to the previous challenge because it would be more helpful for explain the topic. I loved completing this task as I improved in some points like arranging the words, color combination and vocabulary. I am excited to complete other tasks of the Summer Learning Journey.

SLJ (W3/A24): Kick Start Tama-nui-te-rā

 LI: To create a word art which describes the proverb you have created.

The above word art is the fourth Kick Start activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this activity we were challenged to create a word cloud which describes a proverb of my choice. A word cloud is when you create a collage of all the words that you think are related to the topic you are thinking about. A proverb is a short saying which tells a general truth or piece of advice. I chose my topic for the word cloud as success and the proverb that comes in my mind is "The more you sweat while practising the less blood you drain in the battle". It explains that you should work as hard as possible while you are practising because it has a more pleasing and successful outcome leading to success.  I started by watching the introduction video and came to know about a site which was very helpful for creating the word art. I then wrote all the words that I think are related to success which were process, goal, ideas, planning, focus, subjectives, objectives, solution, achieve, development, improvement and target. I liked completing this task because it increased my vocabulary and I learnt to combine all the words in a word cloud. I am looking forward to complete the other part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W3/A23): Step it up Tastes of Summer

 LI: To describe the food in the photo montage you created with simple ideas.

The above google draw is the third Step it up activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. It is the second part of the previous activity thus I didn't have to do much. For this activity I was challenged to add callouts which describes the food under the topics of taste, texture and smell. I started by creating a brainstorm of words for each food which is like writing the words that first comes in your mind when you think about something. This strategy was very helpful for me because the key words created sentences that were very creative. To make the collage stand out I decided to create callouts in the shape of a triangle as it wouldn't ruin the format. I liked completing this task because it made me think of new words and sentences that could best describe my dish. I am looking forward to complete other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well.

 LI: To create a collage of foods that you love to eat in summer.

The above google draw is the third Kick Start activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. I started by thinking about all the foods that I enjoyed eating and would love to it in summer. Then, I collected pictures that were labelled for reuse and added them on a google draw. I also made sure that I have added the links to them. Before doing this activity I watched the introduction screencastify and read how to be a drawing ninja which was very helpful because I tried to become creative and it gave me new ideas as well. To make my collage stand out, I have used the color theme of Summer and have added pictures the way I have seen in magazines. Some adjective to describe my food would be refreshing, flavourful and chewy. I liked completing this task because it made me think of many pleasant and beautiful memories of summer. I am looking forward to complete the other part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W3/A22): Step it up Ultraviolet

 LI: To learn more about UV rays and design a wearable UV Indicator.

The above google draw is the second Step it up activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this activity, I first started by learning that a UV wearable is an indicator tells the updates of the ultraviolet rays near you and is handy that can easily be transported. This can be very helpful as the person can know what preventive measures to be taken at the right time. Therefore, I have created a bracelet which will light up according to the UV rays with the color as shown above. We were also challenged to add a Kiwana theme to it, which is something that resembles New Zealand, so I decided to use a koru as the buttons that will light up. I liked completing this task because we used are creative skills to create a design but at the same time we learnt something new. I am excited to complete my other Summer Learning Journey tasks as well.

SLJ (W3/A22): Kick Start Ultraviolet

 LI: To learn more about UV rays and design an indicator for our home. 

The above google draw is the second Kick Start activity for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. I started by learning more about Ultraviolet rays by reading interesting facts, the fluctuation in levels and its side effects. Ultraviolet rays are basically invisible and a part of the energy provided from the sun which can be very harmful at times. This topic is very important because New Zealand as one of countries in the Earth which has the highest UV Index, and preventive measures should be taken. Therefore, I have created an indicator which will be updated everyday according to the level. This would then be used by my family and me, as we will be following the rules according to the level. I liked completing this task because I could be more aware of this topic and also got a chance to spread awareness to others. I am looking forward to complete my other Summer Learning Journey tasks as well.
