SLJ (W4/A36): Step it up Summer Collage

LI: To record a poem showcasing the things I like to do in Summer.

The above screencastify is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. The Step it up activity showcases the poem I have created reflecting the favourite things I like to do in Summer. I started this activity by recalling and remembering all the beautiful places I have visited and all the small details I can add in my poem. Once I had a couple of ideas I then made the rhyme in the ending words. I think rhyming is very important in poems because it makes them sound more catchy and powerful at the same time. Once my poem was ready I added a picture in the background that my mum and I clicked from the top of Sky Tower. I really liked completing this activity as I got a chance to use my creativity skills and write a poem in my own words, after recalling the fun time I spent in the holidays. I am very excited to complete my other tasks of the Summer Learning Journey.

  1. Kia ora Sakshi,

Fiona here from the Summer Learning Journey. I really enjoyed listening to you read your lovely summer poem via your screencastify recording. Your lyrics are very well written - ka pai! I really like how you made your lines rhyme and agree that this makes a poem more catchy and powerful. Great work!

One of my favourite lines in your poem was when you wrote about building sandcastles far from the ocean in the perfect location but then seeing your palace collide. This has also happened to me when I have misread the tide and it eats away my creation! Do you have a favourite beach to go to in summer or one that you visit most regularly? We are so lucky to have so many amazing beaches in New Zealand!

    Keep up the great work!

    Ka kite anō,

    Fiona (SLJ).
