SLJ (W4/A31): Kick Start Summer Sounds

LI: To record the sounds I hear outside.

The above vocaroo is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. The Kick Start activity showcases the sounds that I hear when I go outside. The thing I liked the most about this task is that it's very pleasing. When I sit outside on the doorway and close my eyes I hear the exact same sounds. If a person carefully listens to the recording they will hear the chirping of crickets and birds, blowing winds and the vrooming of cars at a far away distance. I also like the fact that a person sitting indoors can think of the scenery I am talking about as the sounds would create a picture in their mind. I think this task was a great start up because writing the poem would be much more easier now. I loved doing this activity and I am looking forward to do the second part of it as well.

Wow, what beautiful sounds! I love the birds and crickets chirping.

These sounds remind me of a hot summers day!

I agree, I think listening to these sounds is really helpful for writing your poem. It's a bit like looking at a picture or going to a certain place for inspiration!

What is your favourite peaceful and calming sound? I really like the sound of waves.

    Keep up the great mahi!

    1. Kia ora Charlotte,

Thank you for commenting on my Summer Learning Journey blog post and for the positive feedback as well. I am glad you found the recording pleasing. I agree, the sounds are so beautiful and they do remind of the hot summer days. When I listen these sounds I imagine a forest with long grass and tall trees. I have been to a waterfall in Rotorua recently and somehow I find the sound of waterfalls very calming. Do you know what type of sounds we will hear if we are in the middle of a forest?

      Thank you so much!
I am looking forward to talk to you.

  2. Kia ora Sakshi,

You are so welcome - the whole SLJ team enjoy reading your well thought out posts!

I find the sounds of waterfalls calming too!

Funnily enough I spent time in a forest today, walking my dog with my mum and sisters. The sounds I noticed were the rustling of trees, birds tweeting and the crunching of our shoes across the gravel path. I also heard the panting of my dog and the soft crunching of her paws as they hit the ground.

I think if I stopped to listen I may have heard more sounds too! Are there any other forest sounds you can think of?

    Ngā mihi,

    Charlotte
