SLJ (W4/A31): Step it up Summer Sounds

LI: To write a poem on the bases of the sounds I hear outside.

The above google draw is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. The Step it up activity showcases the poem that I created after hearing the audio in the first part of this activity. I started by reading the poem Summer Sounds written by Jenny Bornholdt, in which she talks about what beautiful things she observes when she goes outside. I think it was very helpful because it was an example through which we can get an idea of what to do now. I then used the strategy of brainstorming and wrote the key words, which I thought could be used in the poem. The challenging part is this activity was to create the rhyme with the ending words. Finally, after making the poem I made sure that I add text graphic and a drawing to make it look more efficient. Once I completed my work I presented it as a screencastify and recorded myself narrating the poem. I loved completing this task because I was being creative and using my vocabulary at the same time as well as got a chance to enhance my knowledge in literature. I am very excited to do other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey.

  1. Kia ora Sakshi,

Charlotte here from the SLJ team.

Wow, that was amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful poem, picture and explanation. I actually listened to your poem three times as it was so great!

Your poem flows so nicely and sets the scene perfectly. I love the inclusion of "I wonder what they say" in regard to the birds. Your poem makes me think of someone staring out the window in child-like wonder, seeing something beautiful and interesting in the ordinary. I love it!

I am awarding this post bonus points as it is outstanding. I'm so excited to see more of your drawing and writing.

    Well done Sakshi!

    Ngā mihi,

    Charlotte

    1. Kia ora Charlotte,

Thank you for taking time and commenting on my Summer Learning Journey blog post as well as for the positive feedback. I am glad you liked my work. Thank you for the bonus points as well. Maybe the reason you found the poem flowing was because of the use of words as well as the ending words (-ay). Do you know some different types of poem? This poem is called a rhymed poetry and these are one of the poems I right a lot. Do you write poems? If yes, what type of poems do you write? If no, what topic would you love to write about?

    1. Good afternoon Mr. Johnston,

Thank you for taking time and commenting on my blog as well as for the positive feedback. I am glad you liked my work. I think the artwork really payed it off. I added an artwork because I thought it could help explain the topic more. What picture does the poem create in your mind? I have started doing poetry in these holidays and I really liked doing it because I find it a very creative way of sharing my ideas. Do you like poetry?

      Thank you for the comment!
