SLJ (W6/A53): Step it up Whānau Tent Time

 LI: To create a programme for you and your family to enjoy time.

The above poster is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to create a programme that we enjoyed this evening. I used canva to create the poster that had all the schedules which basically was the events happening in the party. I included the main points like the starting time, watching movies, eating snacks, listening to songs and watching the sunset. As I was the creator of the event I also made some snacks that we could enjoy. I loved completing this task because my family and I had a great time and the best part was that I was the organiser. I enjoyed completing all the Summer Learning Journey Tasks and came to learn many new things from each activity. 

SLJ (W6/A53): Kick Start Whānau Tent Time

 LI: To create a fort either inside or outside your house.

The above picture is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity we were challenged to create a fort either inside or outside the house. I then started watching some video tutorials and I noted down the ideas. I decided to make the fort inside as it was quite windy outside. I then gathered all the materials that would be required, like cushions, blankets, chairs and bed sheets. Me and brother worked together as he was very excited and then we kept the chairs in a formation to hold the blankets. Later we added blankets at the top and at the bottom as well as some cushions on the side. Once it was ready and me and my brother sat under it and noticed that it looked so real as the the blankets were like the carpets and roof, chairs as the pillars and the cushions as pillows. I loved completing this task and am happy that our hard work paid off. I am excited to do the second part of this activity.

SLJ (W6/A52): Step it up Summer Picnic

 LI: To design a menu for your picnic using canva. 

The above poster is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to create a menu that we would be taking for picnic. This is the same menu that I took for picnic last week and my favourite combo was grilled tofu with soft drinks. All the food tasted amazing and as I am talking about it I have started to feel hungry. For making this menu I used canva which was very helpful as I could take ideas from various layouts and create one as my own design. While I was adding the information I made sure that I do classification in the dished like drinks and meals as well as add minor stuff like the timing. I enjoyed completing this task as I was recalling all the fun I did at my picnics. I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well. 

SLJ (W6/A52): Kick Start Summer Picnic

 LI: To pack a picnic basket, bag or box with food for my picnic.

The above picture is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity we were asked to create a picnic basket and add a picture of it on our blogs. As we did not have any plans for this weekend I decided to add a picture from the past that I clicked when we were going to the beach. I think when I go outside, the thing I enjoy doing the most is having the food we brought from home. I somehow find it better than the restaurants and always insist my mother to bring stuff like homemade sandwiches and burgers instead. I loved completing this task because I got a chance to share my experience with my reader. I am looking forward to do the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A51): Step it up That was Summer

 LI: To create a screencastify in which you narrate your poem.

The above screencastify is the seventh task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to narrate our "that was summer poem". I first started by adding labelled for reuse pictures on a google presentation and created its layout. Then I copied and pasted the lines of my poem. The thing I liked the most about this activity was that the poem came to life as adding the pictures helped the readers create a picture in their mind. Once, I completed the poem I practiced saying the lines a couple of times and then recorded the screencastify. I loved completing this activity and I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well.

SLJ (W6/A51): Kick Start That was Summer

 LI: To create our own poem that represents summer.

The above design is the seventh task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create our "that was summer poem". I started by brainstorming words that came in my mind and I thought could be used in poem. I think this was the best strategy I could have ever used because I could also find rhyming words making my poem more attractive. Finally, once my poem was completed I added a picture in the background and I made sure that I gave credits to the creator as well. I loved completing this task because I improved my poetry skills and I am looking forward to do the other part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A50): Step it up Gliding Time

 LI: To create a screencastify and share my experience while making the design.

The above screencastify is the sixth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to share our experience of making the origami glider. I started by watching some video tutorials on youtube and finally made it. Me and my brother were so excited to see how it will work that I forgot to click a picture and went in the front lawn to test it. That's when it got stuck in the tree and I had to make the glider again. But this time I made sure that I clicked the picture. The glider was really amazing as it stayed in the air for a long time and also had a smooth landing as compared to other origami airplanes. I loved completing this task as I improved my art skills and also got a chance to learn new techniques. I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well. 

SLJ (W6/A50): Kick Start Gliding Time

 LI: To create a design or rough sketch of the glider I created. 

The above design is the sixth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a rough sketch of the glider and label the important parts as well. When I was doing the task I found drawing on the paper much more easier and detailed rather doing it on the chromebook. Some parts that I have labelled are fore, nose, leading edge, trailing edge, chord, starboard, salmon, port, fuselage, tail and aft. I also liked researching the roles of each parts in the glider and came to know that each part is as important as the other. This task was very knowledgeable for me because I came to know more about gliders and I am looking forward to do the second part of the activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A49): Step it up Pixel Art

 LI: To create my own pixel tree animation.

The above screencastify is the fifth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to create an animation using piskelapp which showcases a christmas tree. I think we couldn't have found any other site as this was the most convenient one for many reasons and some of them are that we can see the preview side by side, it has many tools which make the work easier and we can copy and paste the slides instead of making the whole thing again. After I completed the task I downloaded it but, faced trouble uploading the video thus I decided to make a screencastify instead. I loved completing this task because I came to know more about pixels side by side. Something I found interesting was that a pixel is the smallest element in an all points of the device. I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well. 

SLJ (W6/A49): Kick Start Pixel Art

 LI: To create my own summer pixel art image.

The above artwork is the fifth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to use pixel art maker and create a piece of art that represents summer. When I think about summer many things come in my mind including the beach, sun, clothes, swimming, and ofcourse food. I tried most of them and I found the above drawing the most perfect out of them. Before doing this task I didn't know about the site and I am glad to work on it because it is amazing because it make the drawing easier and much more better. I came to know many knowledgeable facts and one of them is that pixel is a minute area of illumination on a display screen and are reason why we can see images. I loved completing this task and I am looking forward to fo the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A48): Step it up Mondrian

 LI: To find maths (fractions and area) in the piece of art you created.

The above google draw is the fourth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to find the maths including the area and fraction of each color in the art we created. Area can be defined as the space occupied by a flat shape whereas a fraction can be defined as the part of a whole and not exactly a whole number. It was very creative to add maths in art and that is the reason why I loved doing this activity the most. I also liked the fact that these activities prevent me from forgetting my math strategies in these holidays. I loved completing this task and I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks as well.

SLJ (W6/A48): Kick Start Mondrian

 LI: To create a Mondrian Art using google spreadsheet.

The above artwork is the fourth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a Mondrian Art. This type of art was created by Piet Mondrian and was named after it. He was an important leader in the development of modern abstract art during the Dutch art movement. This activity improved my creativity skills in art but at the same time I came to learn some interesting facts about the history of arts. Something that I found amusing was that the creator of this beautiful modern art was inspired by Pablo Picasso and got the idea of Cubism from him only. I loved completing this activity and I am looking forward to do the second part of this task as well. 

SLJ (W6/A47): Step it up Soundtrack of Summer

 LI: To create a survey to find out about people’s top songs to celebrate summer 

The above survey is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity we were challenged to create a questionnaire that would be answered by the readers of my blog. A survey is basically a general view, examination, or description a certain topic. I made sure that I ask both open ended and close ended questions as I wanted to know what your answers would be freestyle and what would be within the options as well. I love creating and doing survey because I come to know about each others opinions and interests. After I made the survey I asked my family and friends to fill it and I would like if you fill it as well. This task was also amazing as I would be learning so much about others and I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey blog posts as well.

SLJ (W6/A47): Kick Start Soundtrack of Summer

 LI: To create a playlist of the songs that people could sing together to celebrate summer. 

The above screencastify is the third task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create a playlist of songs you often listen and enjoy singing with your family. My playlist always contain Kpop or Korean Pop music and that is why my brother and cousins also listen to them. The thing I like the most about these songs is that they are not just of one genre and makes me feel several feelings at one time. One more thing is that they don't just sing but dance as well. My favourite band amongst all of them is BTS, Bangtan Sonyeondan or Bulletproof Boy Scouts and I spend most of the day listening to their music. I often play their music on Spotify and do my work side by side. 

For this activity, instead of just adding the songs I decided to play the main part or a short clip and show it in the screencastify. Most of the music that I have listed above are related to summer, but the rest are one of my favourite songs. The music bands who sang them were Red Velvet, TXT, Blackpink and BTS. I also turned the subtitles on, as some part of the lyrics are in Korean and I guess it would be a little more helpful. This activity was my favourite out of all the Summer Learning Journey Tasks because I could share my interest in music with my readers. I am looking forward to the second part of this activity as well. 

SLJ (W6/A3): Step it up Fishy False Teeth

 LI: To create an infographic proving whether the fact is true or not.

The above picture is the second task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to create an infographic concluding the fact "fishes have human like teeth" is true or not. This activity increased by vocabulary as well because I came to know that the word "hoax" means a trick or a rumor. Once I did my research I created my infographic on the google draw proving the fact true but partially, as all fished don't have human like teeth, it's just triggerfish that are located in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The thing I liked the most about completing this activity was that the first part was very funny whereas the second part was very knowledgeable. I am looking forward to do other Summer Learning Journey blog posts as well. 

SLJ (W6/A46): Super Seesaw with Nanogirl

LI: To create a screencastify showcasing the super seesaw I created.

Today, I have completed my first task of week six for the Summer Learning Journey activity and have created a screencastify that shows the super seesaw I created. First, I watched the introduction video Nanogirl has uploaded on her site and I came to know many new things. I started by learning the meaning of catapult. In easy words, it is a machine in which one side of the stick would throw whatever it has in it at a high speed due to the force or weight added on the other side. Today we would be learning the power of super throwing by making the catapult in this activity.

I started by collecting all the equipments that were required to run the activity which were a hairband, tissue roll, spatula and a stone. Then, I temporarily stick the roll to the spatula with the harband to create a strong grip. While making the design, I came to know that this activity contains a lot of knowledgeable terms as the stone can be thrown at different angles by increasing and decreasing its size which is mathematics and the force and pressure on the other side of the catapult then leads the stone to go at a far distance which is physics. The most fun part was that fun activities like these help explain such big topics in an easy way through an example. Once I was ready with my experiment I went outside my house and tried my catapult. 

I really enjoyed completing this activity because I came to know more about angles, force and pressure as well as got to check it by conducting this activity. The part which I enjoyable and challenging part in this activity was doing the experiment because it took a lot of time for the stone to actually hit the target but when it happened me and my brother were really very happy. I think the advice I would give to the creators who haven't done the experiment yet, is to not lose hope when the catapult doesn't work as it will take time to hit the target when you try different angles and move the spatula according to it. I am excited to complete other Summer Learning Journey tasks as well.

SLJ (W5/A45): Step it up It's a Balancing Act

 LI: To create a screencastify and share your experience while building the design.

The above screencastify is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. In this Step it up activity I have showed the two attempts that conclude having a strong base is important in a structure. My first attempt is the perfect example as it covers all the three rules which are a strong base, a flat surface and equal sized materials but when it is compared with my second attempt it is a little wiggly due to a small base. After completing this activity I concluded that the base has a very strong impact on the durability of a structure. I loved completing this task because it was very knowledgeable and at the same time I also came to learn the science behind it which is the wider the base the more the weight can be spread. I am looking forward to complete other Summer Learning Journey activities as well. 

SLJ (W5/A45): Kick Start It's a Balancing Act

 LI: To learn more about balancing and create a tower that showcases your skills.

The above picture is the ninth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to learn about balancing and show an example of the tower I have created. For this activity, I started by watching the recommended video from which I learnt many tips and some of them were to use a flat or hard surface and avoid the carpet area as it would help to build a firm base. It also said to use materials of the same size and to make the design more stable it should have a broad start because it makes a much more stronger base and an example that best suits is a triangle or pyramids. The scientific reason is that the weight of the tower spreads out between the broad base instead of just being on one block. After watching the video and understanding the facts I created my tower. I couldn't find rock or pebbles so I decided to use the Jenga blocks I had at home. I followed the tips but to make the task a little more trickier I decided to put the weight of the design on one single block. Even though it was making my tower fall it was much more fun. I loved completing this task and I am looking forward to do the second part of this task as well. 

SLJ (W5/A44): Step it up Do Something New

  LI: To create your own journey in New Zealand that I would like to travel.

The above google maps is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Step it up activity I read the instructions that explained the challenge, which was to create your own journey which consists of at least fifteen locations and then drop pins on the map. Only hearing the challenge made me so excited because I love to travel and when I came to New Zealand I already created a list to the places I would love to go. So, it was a good time to use the list now. One thing I loved about this activity was that we were using our smart searching skills to discover about new places and also write a small summary that explains the topic more. 

The places that I have covered on the map are Bay of Islands, Tongariro National Park, Franz Josef Glacier, Kaikoura, Milford Sound, Waiheke Island, White Island, Waitomo Glowworm Caves, One Tree Hill, Moeraki Boulders, Craters of the Moon, Huka Falls, Larnach Castle, Piha Beach and Wanaka. In the map, I have added pictures of the place and small information paragraphs so that it can be more informative and clear. I loved completing this activity because I got a chance to share my opinions with the readers and also discovered some beautiful places that I never knew about. I would love to do more activities like this and I am very excited to do other Summer Learning Journey Tasks. 

SLJ (W5/A44): Kick Start Do Something New

  LI: To choose a journey in New Zealand that you would like to travel.

The above google maps is the eighth task for this week of the Summer Learning Journey that I have completed today. For this Kick Start activity I started by watching the introduction video that explained the challenge, which was to plan a trip around New Zealand and either choose Journey A or Journey B which were provided on a google documents, and create a map which has the pins on locations from the journeys. The reason I chose Journey A was because I have visited very were few places amongst them and it would be more fun to travel unvisited places. 

The places that I have covered on the map are: Cape Reinga, Geyser, Beehive, Sky Tower, L&P bottle, Pania of Reef, Baldwin Street, Avon, Punakaiki, Botanic Gardens, Mount Taranaki, Routeburn, Mount Ruapehu, Whales Kaikoura, Oamaru Penguin, Tāne Mahuta, Opononian, Kiwi fruit Te Puke and Hobbitons. In the map, I made sure to add pins with different colors so it could be easily classified, a picture of the place so the readers can get an idea of what I am talking about and a small information paragraph that gives a summary on the place. I loved completing this activity as this was very knowledgeable for me and at the same time I came to know places I would love to visit within the country. I am looking forward to do the second part of this task as well.
