LI: To create a Summer Haiku using your own words.
The above google drawings is the tenth Summer Learning Journey Task I have created. In this activity, I have written a Haiku which has a special theme "Summer". A Haiku is a poem, which is build on the bases of syllables. A set consists of three lines that has five syllables on the first, seven syllables on the second, and five syllables in the last line. I started the activity by watching an article and a video which explained the same rules of syllables and gave some examples as well. Now, once I was ready and knew what to write I started with my poem. My poem is about the summer and the shining sun above our heads which heats up the temperature. I enjoyed doing this challenge because I have improved my Haiku skills of writing a poem and I think that is a very beautiful way through which the poem can share their thoughts by using the key words. I am looking forward to complete my other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey as well.
Beautiful!! I could never make this
ReplyDeleteYou made this on google drawings.. What else software can we use?
Hi Sarah,
DeleteThank you for commenting on my blog and the positive feedback. I really appreciate it! I used a google drawing but I think we can use a google document and google slides to add a picture and write a couple of lines. Which software do you generally use? Which one do you find easier?
Thank you for commenting! I am looking forward for your reply.

ReplyDeleteKia ora Sakshi,
What a lovely descriptive haiku about the sun! Ka pa!
You followed the syllable structure perfectly which is awesome as this can be tricky! You also gave a great explanation of this.
I agree, the haiku structure is a very beautiful way of structuring a poem. Are there any other types of poem that you like to write?
Keep up the awesome mahi!

Kia ora Charlotte,
DeleteThank you for taking time and commenting on my blog. I am glad you liked my work and thank you for the positive feedback as well. I agree, making sure that I don't mess up the syllables was hard because sometime I wanted to write words but they increased or decreased the amount of syllables in a line. I like to do poetry as well and write different types of poems but except Haiku I like to write blank verse because in these types of poems the writer doesn't have to make sure that the ending words rhyme making it easy to form the poem and express the feelings. Do you also write poems? If yes, what types of poems do you write? If no, which type of poems do you like to read?
Thank you! I am looking forward to talk to you through the comments.

Kia ora Sakshi,
ReplyDeleteI agree - it is easier to express yourself without constraints. I do like to write poems, and I also love getting my students to write poems. My favourite might be slam or spoken word poems. These are really interesting poems to write as there are no restrictions. Have you ever heard a spoken word poem?
I hope to read more of your poems one day!

Kia ora Charlotte,
DeleteThank you for answering my question and replying to my blog. That's great! I also like writing poems. Yes, I have heard about them and know a little bit. These types of poems not just emphasizes on writing the lines but also focuses on presenting them. When a person reads these types of poems, they need to tell it in detail and express what they feel. I read some spoken word poems now. and I loved the ones that Sarah Temporal has written as she explains what she is saying in detail. Do you have a favourite poet? If yes, who is it and what types of poem do they write?
Thank you so much!

Kia ora Sakshi,
ReplyDeleteYou are right! I love that the poems allow the poet to express how they feel.
I haven't heard of Sarah Temporal so I will have to check her work out! I think there are so many great poets but one of my favourite was Joshua Iosefo who performed "Brown Brother" at his school in Auckland. I would recommend giving it a watch - I showed my own year eight students it this year and they loved it. If you do, let me know what you thinK.

Kia ora Charlotte,
DeleteThank you for answering my question and replying to my blog. I agree, after seeing your comment I watched many other videos of spoken word poems and I really loved them. I watched the video which was showing Joshua Iosefo performing "black brothers" and it was amazing! The message was so powerful. The way he compared things to things made it look more powerful making it look more effective for the readers. It was really nice talking to you through the comments! I would love to talk to you again.
Thank you so much for creating the comment thread!
