LI: To create a screencastify with one of your family members while reciting your poem.
The above screencastify is the Step it up and fourteenth activity for the Summer Learning Journey. We were challenged to create a screencastify showcasing our poem. I asked my brother to help me with this task and came to know that saying a poem with another person is not that easy. We made several recordings and chose this one because in the others we messed up the lyrics. After completing this task I came to know the difference between celebrating Christmas in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. The major difference is the weather as it is winter in the north and summer in the south. That is the reason why people show Santa in woollen clothes, with reindeers and a snowman. They forget that countries like Australia and New Zealand celebrate Christmas in Summers. Thus I have created this activity to tell others that Christmas is about both winter and summer, puddings and ice creams, reindeers and kiwis, snowmen and sea shells. I really liked completing this task and I am excited to complete other tasks for the Summer Learning Journey.
Hi Sakshi my name is Reece from Glenbrae School. I really like your work. Nice screencastify too. Your song is cool. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteHi Reece,
DeleteThank you for taking time and commenting on my blog. I am glad you liked my work and thank you for the positive feedback as well! I really appreciate it. You have made an amazing song as well. Do you know any other Christmas carols that you love to sing? What did you find interesting in this task?
Thank you! I am looking forward to talk to you through the comments.

Kia ora Sakshi, it’s Elle again from the Summer Learning Journey.
ReplyDeleteWow, you have done an incredible job, I love your Kiwi Christmas Jingle Bells!
Not only have you stepped it up by reading the lyrics in a video, you have written an entire song as opposed to just a chorus! I am thoroughly impressed. Did you base this song after your own experiences you’ve had during kiwi Christmases? I especially like the verse about the sizzling barbecue and gulping down soft drinks! I have had many kiwi Christmases that were just like that!
I think it is great that you have included so many images too, and attributed them to the original creator! Well done!
I really like that you’ve included facts about why the Christmas weather is different in New Zealand in your blurb! This shows great reflection and teaches your readers more about what inspired your song!
Fantastic work Sakshi, and thank you for sharing your amazing song!
Ngā mihi,
Elle (SLJ)
Kia ora Ms. Williams,
DeleteThank you for taking time and commenting on my Summer Learning Journey blog post. I am glad you liked my work and thank you for the positive feedback as well. Yes, I have based this song on the experiences I had with my family during the holidays and the time I spent on the beach and picnics. This is my first year in New Zealand and would be my first Christmas here as well. I am very excited to see hoW I will spend my day tomorrow! I agree, the sizzling barbeque and gulping soft drink was my favourite part as well. How do you spend Christmas in the summers?
Thank you! I am looking forward to talk to you in the comments.
-Sakshi
Mōrena Sakshi, it is great to hear from you again.
DeleteYou are most welcome - thank you for sharing your awesome song! That is a great idea to draw from your own experience, and I'm sure a lot of people can relate to your lyrics! I know I do. How did you enjoy your first Christmas here in New Zealand? I hope the weather was nice and clear for you!
Every Christmas is different for me, but this year we had a barbecue by the lake, went kayaking and swimming, and played volleyball! It was lots of fun and the weather was really hot.
Merry belated Christmas and keep up the great blogging!
From Elle (SLJ)
Morena Ms. Williams,
DeleteThank you for replying and answering my question. Sorry for the late reply. I am glad you liked my work and thank you for the positive feedback as well. My Christmas was amazing! We were in Rotorua during Christmas. We started our day by eating tasty pancakes and going for a morning walk. Then we went to the beach, played volleyball, made sandcastles and ate pizza. Once we came back we watched a movie and ordered dinner from outside. I loved celebrating Christmas in the summers. Your Christmas sounds great! Woah, I really miss the barbeque! Merry belated Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well!
One of the fun ways to replace Winter Christmas by Summer Christmas is by making snowmans out of sand at a beach. Do you know any other way?
Thank you so much!
-Sakshi
Hello Sakshi,
DeleteThat is okay, I'm glad that you've been keeping busy these holidays! Wow, that sounds like an amazing Christmas! There are lots of fun things to do in Rotorua and it's so cool to hear you got to do so much! Pizza and pancakes sound like awesome Christmas food too - yum! What movie did you watch? We watched the new Grinch movie during Christmas and I really enjoyed it!
That's such a good idea, I never thought about making a sandman instead of a snowman! I suppose another winter Christmas swap could be having chocolate milkshakes instead of hot chocolates!
You're welcome, and thank you for your neat replies!
- Elle
Hi Ms. Williams,
DeleteThank you for taking time and replying back to the comment as well as for answering my question. I agree, Rotorua really was fun. We went to Water Springs and Skyline on the previous day and it was something memorable! The movie you watched sounds great. I am looking forward to watch that movie. My family and I watched the first Grinch movie again as my brother didn't watch it earlier. Wow! That's an amazing swap. You are so creative in giving ideas! What are the five words that come in your mind when you think about Christmas?
Thank you!
I am looking forward for your reply.
-Sakshi
Meri Kirihimete Sakshi, it's raining where I am now and your version of Jingle Bells brought with it a bit of sunshine.
ReplyDeleteYou used your voice really well to recite your poem, good pace and volume. Having someone else join you at different times was a clever strategy. It provided variety and impact.
Lots of Kiwi summer activities included too.
ngā mihi nui,
Mrs Grant
Meri Kirihimete Ms. Grant,
DeleteThank you for commenting on my blog and for the positive feedback as well. I am so happy that you liked my poem! The reason why my brother just said a particular verse was because he couldn't really say all the lyrics in the song. I never knew it would sound good and will be an effective strategy as well! What is something special that you do in Christmas during the summer?
Thank you so much!
-Sakshi
You are very much the composer. Well written and presented. This captured the NZ style of Christmas. I really enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Mr. Johnston!
DeleteThank you for taking time and commenting on my blog. I am glad you liked my work and thank you for the positive feedback as well. I think this activity was very helpful for me and other students as well for many reasons. One of them is that we our improving our vocabulary and at the same time we are trying to be creative. How do you think this activity was helpful for the students?
