SLJ (W1/A2): Blog Commenting

LI: To write a quality blog comment on someone else’s blog that starts a rich learning conversation.

Today we learnt about leaving a quality blog comment on another student’s blog which helps us make connections to new learning by asking open ended questions that encourage a reply and motivate the blogger to ask their own question in return. This is how a comment thread starts and when that happens we make connections with a wider audience who we can learn with and from. This is also very helpful and knowledgeable as we share each other opinions and come to know both sides of view. A quality comment includes a positive feedback, compliment, advise and question. To complete this activity I commented on Fau, Chris, Lukah, Afatia, Florence, Sakina, Victoria and Haylee's blog. I really liked completing this task and am looking forward to comment on other blogs as well.

  1. Malo E Lelei Sakshi,

I am amazed at how many comments you have done in less than a day! It is really great that you are giving information to your readers about how a comment thread starts and what it is. I think that a comment thread is a really good example to other students showing how we can make connections with our learning.

What does a quality comment look like to you? and what is the main elements needed to create a quality comment?

Keep up your learning during the Summer Learning Journey!

  2. Malo e lelei Fau,

Thank you for commenting on my blog and the positive feednack. I really appreciate it. I agree, I think that a comment thread helps the reader and blogger start a conversation and share each other ideas. I think a quality comment consists of four elements:

    Positive compliment
    Relating the comment to yourself
    Advise
    An open ended question

I think all these elements make a quality comment. How do you think you can help a person who is new to blogging with making a comment thread?

    Thank you!
    -Sakshi

  3. Kia ora Sakshi, this is Elle from the Summer Learning Journey team again.

Wow, well done with yet another outstanding activity!

I really like that your slides are clear and easy to read, with many positive, thoughtful and helpful comments you have made on other student’s blogs. Another aspect to your slides that I like is that you have included links to their blog posts so that people can check out the kind of activities you have been commenting on, as well as including your experience and a description of what a comment thread is!

You also have a great variety of introductions and questions, which demonstrate top quality commenting. If you haven't already, remember to submit a link to your published comments using this form. . They definitely deserve the recognition!

Because your post is so great, I’m going to allocate some extra points to it. Keep up the fantastic work!

    Ngā mihi,
    Elle (SLJ)

    1. Kia ora Ms. Williams,

Thank you for commenting on my blog and the positive feedback. I agree, I think adding the four elements (positive compliment, advise, question and relating the post to yourself) in a comment is really important as it makes it quality. Thank you for recommending me, I am filling the form side by side and will make sure that I will do it in the future as well. Thank you so much for giving me extra points! How do you think I can make my comment more detailed?

      Thank you

  4. Kia Ora Sakshi,

I really liked reading your post, and enjoyed viewing it. It was interesting and I got to learn from it like many other posts. I liked how you explained how a quality smart comment can effect and impact someones learning. I've also done this activity and I feel it is a good way to practice learning conversations. Next time you should maybe explain the structure of a comment. What do you think are the benefits of making comments and threads.

    Great Job!

    1. Kia ora Chris,

Thank you for taking time and commenting on my blog. Thank you for the positive feedback and advise as well. I will make the changes now. There are many benefits of making a comment thread. It is not just helpful for the reader but for the blogger as well. The blogger gets a chance to ask a question and give feedback but on the other hand the reader comes to know about their mistakes and the places where they need to improve. The best part of making a comment thread is that two people start a learning conversation in which they share their ideas and opinions. How many comments have you done? Do you have a goal that you are following with your blog commenting?

Thank you for commenting! I am looking forward for your reply.
