SLJ (W1/A9): Which one doesn't belong?

LI: To complete the presentation by telling my list of reasons why each one doesn’t belong.

Today, for my ninth Summer Learning Journey Task, I completed the above presentation. These question can also be called as the "odd one out" because we first saw all the pictures and guessed which picture is different from the other and doesn't belong. But there was a twist, we could choose more than one reason and could also choose various pictures with their individual reasons. We solved eight such activities and in the end we created a questionnaire that our reader could solve and answer in the comments. I think that was the best part because I could use my opinions and could form questions of my choice. This task was one of favourites through out the Journey and I am looking forward to solve other tasks as well.

  1. Hi Sakshi!
I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I also did this activity.
Response to your "Odd ones out" game:
    A: has a circle frame
    D: Is gold lining
    D: Is facing up
A: Star is inside the crescent
Was it easy for you to find the photo for your quiz?

    1. Hi Florence!

Thank you so much for taking time and commenting on my blog. I am glad you liked my work and thank you so much for the positive feedback. I really appreciate it! Your answers are correct. That was so smart. I think it was easy for me to find the pictures for the quiz because I already had an idea about the similarities, in this case the moon and the star. I just needed to search the name of the country and it's flag. Was it easy for you to find pictures in this quiz? I have another question as well, did you find this activity time consuming? Because this activity was so interesting I just didn't want to miss one difference which took me a lot of time!

      Thank you!

  2. Hello Sakshi, this is Elle again from the Summer Learning Journey and it is great to see more of your posts!

Well done for completing the Which One Doesn’t Belong activity. You have a very clever mind and you have pointed out so many examples, including ones that I hadn’t noticed myself!

For example, in slide 4, I was so focused on all the toppings that I didn’t notice ice cream C had horizontal lines on the cone. Great spotting!

It is great to see that you stepped it up and designed your own slide - ka pai! I noticed that C is the only crescent that almost touches the star on both points. I wonder what other people will notice?

What was your favourite part about this activity? I like that it encourages me to look closely at the details and that every time, I see something new that I didn’t notice before!

Keep up the fantastic work Sakshi and well done for being so active in the Summer Learning Journey!

    Mā te wā,
    Elle (SLJ)

    1. Hello Ms. Williams,

Thank you for commenting on my blog post and the positive feedback as well. I am glad you liked my work! You are right, that is one answer for my questionnaire. Some other answers can be:

      1. A has a circle around the moon and star
      2. D is facing up
      3. D because it is the only one that is yellow in colour
      4. A because it is the same colour as the background

My favourite part in this activity was to create my own questionnaire because I was so excited that others will answer it so I tried to keep them hard and did a lot of research to choose these images. I agree, the plus point of the activity was that we were so concentrated while finding the answer. Can you think of another activity that will be a little similar to this one?

Thank you! I am looking forward to talk to you through the comments.

    2. Kia ora Sakshi,

It is great to hear back from you! You are most welcome. Those are some great details - well done for putting so much work into your research and your slide! It’s great that you wanted to make it challenging in order to make people think, and that you enjoyed making it.

That is a great question! I think an activity that could be similar might be images with hidden objects inside it, like a detective challenge! I wonder if there will be other activities similar to the Which One Doesn’t Belong task, or if there will be lots of variety? I’m excited to see!

Have you been enjoying the activities so far? Which one have you found the most interesting?

Ngā mihi nui and have a great day,
      Elle (SLJ)

    3. Kia ora Ms. Williams,

Thank you for taking time and replying to my comment as well as answering my question. I am glad you liked my work! That was a nice answer. I agree, that could really be a great game. I am very excited and I hope we get some more activities like this because they were so amazing. I love doing the Summer Learning Journey activities! They are so great to do through out the vacations because we never get a chance to feel bored and there is also a competition between our classmates which makes it more exciting. Some activities I found the most interesting were, this one and the treasure hunt with Nanogirl. How do you think we can write a quality blurb? What points should we include to make it detailed?

      Thank you for the reply!

    4. Tēnā koe Sakshi, you are most welcome. You ask great questions!

I am so pleased to hear that you are enjoying the Summer Learning Journey so much, and that you are participating in some healthy competition to motivate you further. I agree, it is great to have some exciting activities to keep you entertained during potentially quiet moments in the holidays!

Those were some great activities and you did a wonderful job on all of them! It is so cool to see how much effort and care you put into them.

I think a quality blurb should be easy to follow and provide helpful insight to what you did, what you learned, and things that you enjoyed about the activity. I think these help to make a quality blurb, because it encourages others to get involved with it too! You have been writing some quality blurbs - ka pai!

Happy holidays Sakshi and thank you for your replies!
      Ngā mihi,
      Elle (SLJ)

    5. Kia ora Ms. Williams,

Thank you for taking time and replying to my comment as well as answering my question. I am glad you liked my work! I agree, the blurbs should be simple but detailed at the same time as it would be helpful for the reader to understand the topic. Thank you so much for taking time and creating this comment thread as well as answering my questions. I came to know a lot about you and I am looking forward to talk in other comments as well.
